K3 exceeds budget for first six months of 2009
UK SYSPRO ERP specialist K3 Business Technology Group (K3) has welcomed its half-year results with cautious optimism. They exceeded the budget in H1 and the average order value is up by 50%, winning business from the larger players in the market.
Amid tough trading conditions, the Manchester-based company has secured important new contract wins and additional solutions contracts with existing customers reiterating how businesses are still looking for robust business systems that offer better value for money and lower cost of ownership to optimise their operations.
“We have exceeded our budget for the first half of the year and are seeing manufacturers continuing to invest in ERP solutions. They realise there’s an opportunity to become more efficient when the economy starts to recover and we are seeing new and existing customers continuing to invest in their computer systems solutions in all areas of their businesses,” says Howard Joseph, Managing Director, K3 Business Technology Group.
He added: “Moving forward, we still recognise there are difficult times ahead but we are upbeat about our first half results and cautiously optimistic about what the future holds.”
First half customers include world-leading packaging and promotional label innovator CCL Labels, Godwin Pumps, which specialises in Dri-Prime® fully automatic self-priming pumps, RAP (Rapid Action Packaging) dedicated to the design and manufacture of innovative, cost effective and environmentally responsible packaging solutions and market-leading medical device company, Frontier Medical Group. Other new customers come from industries as diverse as steel, construction products, plastics and aerospace.
Customers of K3 are recognising the utility of SYSPRO ERP for repetitive, customised, quick-turn and mixed-mode operations. The software enables discrete manufacturers to shrink the time to market from initial design through production and out of the factory gate, providing seamless integration with both financial and distribution modules. It also offers superior features for estimating, scheduling, costing, lot and serial tracking, as well as back-flushing, material verification, inventory optimisation and planning.
“Our customers know K3 can be relied upon to design and implement turnkey solutions and we are re-assured by this confidence in us. Not only has this been true of new customers but also some of our existing clients who have also approached us to provide valuable additional solutions,” concludes Howard Joseph.

SYSPRO solves Directa’s sticky challenge
Leading industrial and office supplies company Directa has awarded K3 Business Technology Group (K3) a contract approaching £200,000 to provide a comprehensive IT support package, including a fully-tailored SYSPRO ERP system, hardware and remote network support.
Directa will be able to more fully control its business by replacing an ageing, bespoke legacy business system with the latest, powerful and more user friendly SYSPRO Manufacturing, Financial and Distribution software. The project scope includes the provision of hardware and K3’s network support capabilities through its full Network Infrastructure Support (NIS) service. The combination of the NIS solution and the software provides maximum uptime supported by K3’s NIS team ensuring the smooth running of the entire system.
The 35-year old Essex-based company, stocks leading brands such as 3M, Velcro, Tork paper products and Procell batteries from Duracell. Directa also supplies its own lines of branded products. These include Deemark safety marking products, Sparks PVC tape, Performance Gaffer Tape, Parseal Packaging Tapes and Shrink Wraps. The company is also a key sponsor of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
Directa distributes over 15,000 product lines and so the K3-designed solution will capitalise on the key distribution modules within the SYSPRO suite. This will provide full visibility of Directa’s entire product range and integrate all sales, accounts and stock operations. The system will also integrate with Directa’s website and online store.
“Before choosing SYSPRO we looked at several other software solutions. After examining the options we saw that SYSPRO was the best fit for our business as the company could provide us with a turn-key service and solution. K3 will not only provide the software, the company will also supply robust new energy-efficient hardware and maintain this aspect for us. We expect the system to provide us with a fully-automated solution that will help us control our business. The SYSPRO configuration replaces all the functionality of our old system but is based on standard software so we are not faced with issues that surround bespoke systems,” said Trevor Neale, Financial Director, at Directa.
With SYSPRO, Directa will benefit from all round gains in efficiency and easy access to accurate information. The solution will also help with Directa’s ‘green initiative’ by reducing paperwork and duplication of information.
“We anticipate that SYSPRO will boost our performance and customer service levels as well as eradicate a mass of paperwork. This will help us push forward our carbon footprint reduction programme,” concludes Trevor Neale.
